There’s no time when it’s more key to clean your teeth and gums than when you’re brushing for two. By using the right oral products, you can help your baby-to-be advance strong and healthy chompers as you save your own oral health. Use the tips below to ensure your pearly whites are as strong as they can be for you and your child.

TIP 1: Brush twice a day with ADA-approved toothpaste.

Brushing your teeth is guidance that we’ve all heard, but do you understand how it protects your teeth from harmful bacterial acids? While you’re brushing, the toothpaste and the bristles of the toothbrush clean your chompers, eliminating bacteria and lodged debris. Fluoride, a naturally occurring element found in many toothpastes, fortifies the outer layer of your teeth, adding an additional layer of protection against bacteria.

TIP 2: Floss your teeth and gums once a day to eliminate cavity-causing debris.

We recognize that it feels messy to lots of people, but we promise that as you practice flossing, that feeling will dissipate and you’ll love the feeling you get when you extract wedged debris from between your teeth and gums. And you’ll also love your oral bill, since wedged food debris are like candy to cavity-causing bacteria. Commit to floss!

TIP 3: Use only products that display the ADA seal of approval.

The ADA is the US’s biggest professional group of dentists, and they really know their stuff. They test many oral products, and products wearing their seal of approval are proven safe to use for your teeth and gums. You can look for the seal on floss and toothpaste containers, as well as any oral products; by using only products with the ADA seal, you can be confident that you’re using safe products.

Keeping these tips in mind is always important, and doubly so when you are having a baby. If you’re pregnant, please set up your next appointment with Dr. Jessica Gorelik at 201 Dental Care in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, by calling 201.944.1969 now so we can adjust your treatment plan accordingly.
